Online Transnational Colloquium (12 & 13 December 2024)
As we continue to explore inclusive and social-justice oriented pedagogies in English language classrooms, we brought together the project team including researchers from Scotland, Türkiye, and Pakistan for a fruitful Online Transnational Colloquium.
On the first day, the colloquium focused on context-specific and cross-context analyses of interview data of teacher educators. Among the concerns and challenges identified include institutional, cultural and societal barriers, connections to real life and practical applications, and limited training and understanding of social justice concepts. These discussions are essential as they help to inform the content development for the workshops to be held for language teachers.
On the second day, we brainstormed collaboratively to develop content for the theoretical and practical workshops to be held for language teachers in the three contexts: Scotland, Türkiye, and Pakistan. In so doing, we intend to create culturally responsive materials to address biases and stereotypes, make social justice concepts accessible and actionable for students and educators, and link participants’ efforts to further professional development.
Thank you to all team members for a productive and rewarding colloquium.
We look forward to having the first of our workshops at Trabzon University in Türkiye on 11 & 12 January 2025!
